What’s in My Purse?!

Hello and happy Thursday!

Today I want to show you what’s in my purse! I love watching ‘What’s in My Purse?’ videos on YouTube, so I decided I would write a blog post on it!

So let’s begin!

IMG_3495.jpg

I have the large Michael Kors tote bag. It’s my favorite especially since I am always carrying tons of things. I decided to get this color combination, because it matches with both brown and black outfits.

IMG_3498.jpg

I also got the matching wallet with the purse! I actually got these two items for my birthday two and half years ago!

IMG_3502.jpg

I always carry a body spray, whether it’s in my purse or backpack. This is the travel size Night fragrance mist by Victoria’s Secret. It smells so good! Because of its ‘strong’ fragrance, I highly recommend this body spray as your go-to during a night out. The item retails at just $15, and are often sold as a “buy one, get one free” promotion. Cheap, and easy to carry? Definitely a must!

IMG_3503.jpg

Now, we move onto one of the more ‘unusual’ items found in my purse. Being that it’s a tote bag, why not let it double as a backpack as well?! At the moment, I’m carrying along the book Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. For all you bookworms out there, this is a classic I highly suggest!

IMG_3507.jpg

If you’re going to call South Texas home, sunglasses are a must! My absolute favorite sunglasses are these Ray Bans. I’ve had these going on five years now, which speaks volumes regarding their durability! They’re the aviator sunglasses, with the gold rim. I paid upwards of $150 for these, but times change, and lucky for you, they’re online at retail for only $125 now.

IMG_3509.jpg

I have my ‘All I need is coffee and mascara’ journal. I actually won this at a baby shower and it has been so helpful! I am always scribbling in there, whether it’s my to do list or a blog post idea. It comes really in handy!

IMG_3510.jpg

With so many things going on in our day-to-day lives, it’s easy to forget a pre-aranged appointment or school assignment. Cue the handy planner. Since I am going to school this semester I’m always planning out me weeks and assignments that I have to do. Very convenient to carry in my purse! (Yes, I know, 2017 is long gone. So time for an update!)

For makeup in my purse I do have quite a few products.

IMG_3513.jpg

I have the Urban Decay Powder. I’m always carrying it around for little touch ups.

IMG_3516.jpg

I have this cute double mirror also from Urban Decay. I received this item for free and I use it almost every single day!

IMG_3520.jpg

I have a Nars lipstick its the shade ‘Orgasm’. I also received this item for free! It’s a light shimmer pink! Super cute!

IMG_3523.jpg

I also have one of my favorite mascaras from Benefit Cosmetics! I am always carrying it in cast of emergencies!

IMG_3527.jpg

I have a hair clip in here. As much as I love having my hair down I prefer my hair out of my face when I’m doing certain activities like studying or working out.

IMG_3515.jpg

I am always hungry! Lol. I make sure to carry some type of snack in my purse. These are some biscuit from Belvita. They are my favorite and super delicious/nutritious.

That is it for What’s in my Purse I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed showing you my things!

Thanks for reading!

Snow Day in South Texas!

Hello and Happy New Year!

I hope you all had an amazing day today!

For those of you that don’t know I’m from south Texas and the last time it snowed here was on December 24, 2004, approximately 13 years ago! 13! I was only eight years old and I still remember bits and pieces of that day. Though we did not get a lot of snow it was enough for us to call it a white Christmas!

After 13 years on December 8, 2017 it finally snowed here again and it was so beautiful! I did what any other person who hasn’t really seen snow would do! Take pictures! I took tons of pictures/videos. I even went driving around the whole town just to take pictures and to admire the beauty of it.

Here are some of the pictures I was able to capture on this beautiful day!

I wasn’t quite sure whether it was going to snow but after some time it just started snowing!

IMG_2472.jpg

It did snow very softly at first. At one point I wasn’t sure if it was snow or just rain.

IMG_2646.jpg

But after a while it just started pouring and the site was beautiful.

IMG_2475.jpg

My dad even called me from work and asked me to take a picture of his oldie truck the one he swears to fix one day. Lol

IMG_2506.jpg

My mom also called me and asked me to take a picture of the house.

Screen Shot 2018-01-01 at 9.09.14 PM.png

I even drove past campus to see what it would look like with all the snow.

IMG_2542.jpg

And I’m glad I did, because it was gorgeous!

IMG_2546.jpg

It was like something you see out of a Christmas movie. People were building snowman and having themselves a good old fashioned snow ball fight. What I was most excited about was making a snow angel! Let me say that making a snow angel with jeans on is not a good idea. I nearly froze my butt off. Lol

IMG_2643.jpg

All in all, it was an amazing day. One I will remember for a long time.

Tips for New Substitute Teachers👩🏻‍🏫

Hello and happy Saturday! I hope everyone is having a great day!
School has been keeping me busy these last couple of weeks, and I finally had a little bit of free time for my blog!

I honestly can’t believe that the month of September is finally over. It went by so fast! On the bright side it’s finally October which means fall decorating and Halloween!🎃

Today I want to write some tips for any new substitute teachers who are needing any extra help.

I’m currently on my third year of being a substitute teacher. I know that isn’t a lot of experience, but it’s quite amazing what you can learn in such a short time.

Here are some tips that I’ve learned and I hope they can help you out!

Setting the Mood

From the moment you step into the room the students are analyzing you. They want to see if you’re going to be a strict substitute or a pushover.
I always begin by instructing the students to have a seat and stay quiet.

I make sure to always introduce myself whether I do a full day or half day. When I introduce myself I am not Ashley, I am Ms.Barron.

I explain to them of what I tolerate and don’t. I make sure they completely understand the consequences of misbehaving. Also, a lot of students believe that we as substitute teachers don’t have a lot of power. Make sure to let them know that you were informed by their teacher that you are allowed to send students to the principals office. Even if you weren’t told or allowed it always works with my students.

I cannot emphasize how important it is to set the mood at the beginning of class. Setting the mood is by far the most important tip I can give. It will make the rest of your day so much easier if you set the mood at the beginning of class.

Prizes

This is probably my favorite tip and has made my day so much easier.
I usually go to the Dollar Tree and spend no more than ten dollars on knick knacks. I don’t buy individual toys because that would be crazy expensive and not everyone would be able to receive a prize. I usually buy packets of little prizes similar to Peter Piper Pizza or Chuck-e-Cheeses prizes.

Spending ten dollars so your kiddos can behave is totally worth it. Ten dollars worth of prizes will usually last you a good while. I’ve also gone to target and purchased sixty mini erasers for only one dollar, which is amazing!

I always explain to the students the rules in order to be able to win a prize. If I have to call on them more than three times they will not be able to win a prize at the end of the day.

For reference, I try not to give the Pre-Kinder and Kindergarteners anything that they can eat or choke on, like the mini erasers or play-doh. I try to give them pencils or stickers for safety reasons.

Also, try not to give candy away as prizes mostly because some students can be allergic to certain ingredients in the candy or they’re just not allowed to eat certain foods.

It is always best to be safe then sorry!

Don’t have unrealistic expectations

Now this is a tip that took me a while to figure out. At the beginning I always had unrealistic expectations. I expected my kindergarteners/first graders to be completely quiet. Which is nice in a perfect world, but far from reality.
I’ve come to realize that some of my classes will never be completely quiet. We might have quiet moments here and there, but for the most part, expect the unexpected.

Overall having unrealistic expectations just makes it stressful for yourself, and for the class.

Have a middle ground

It is important to have a middle ground when being a substitute teacher. You don’t want to be that overly-strict substitute, but at the same time you also don’t want to be that pushover substitute.

Being a substitute teacher has been a crazy roller coaster. I can definitely say that I’ve come to really appreciate what teachers do and say that their job is not easy!

I hope these couple of tips were helpful to any newbie substitute teachers and if you’re not a substitute teacher but are considering wanting to become one I highly recommend it!

It is a great job for students, parents and pretty much anyone with an unpredictable schedule. I definitely love the freedom this job has given me. As a substitute teacher, you have the option of going into work whenever you want, so you pretty much make your own schedule!

It’s great for me since I’m currently a student at a University and sometimes I have exams that I have to study way ahead of time. If I need extra time for my classes I just won’t go in, but if I have free time I can schedule in work days whenever I want.

If you like kids you’ll definitely have a great time!

I hope you have a great weekend and make it a good one!

Here is a list of my goals for the week:

  • Ace my three quizzes coming up
  • Write at least three blog post, including this one
  • Go to work at least two days out of the week
  • Go to the gym at least four days a week
  • Find a gift for my grandmother, since her birthday is coming up
  • Try to eat cleaner/healthier

I hope to have a productive week and I hope you have a productive week as well!

My Week

31BE4E58-7343-4F0E-8B28-B69490071C43.jpgHello! Happy Saturday!

I’m so happy the weekend is finally here! I had a productive and satisfying week!

To begin, I started my first week of senior year in college! I can’t believe the finish line is almost here! I am currently taking thirteen hours this semester and since I am a senior I am completing my elective requirements. This semester I am taking advanced biochemistry, criminology, ethnobotany, and microbiology.

I have to admit this semester is definitely going to be tough semester, but I do like the challenge!

Usually my schedule for school consists of me going to campus only two days out of the week. This semester I am pretty much going everyday, Monday through Thursday.

26FF7821-61AE-4644-9964-959A44712113.jpg

My advanced biochemistry course seems like the class that is going to give me the most trouble. My professor made it clear the first day that the course was definitely going to be challenge. I didn’t really believe him until he started showing us the grades/statistics of his past students. Let me say that only one sixth of his class actually got As, which is not a very good outcome. There were more Fs and drops than there were of As, Bs, Cs, and Ds. The second day of class we had our first quiz and it was pretty tough! I must admit that I am most excited about this course, since biochemistry is my favorite subject.

1C0E1760-B8ED-4AD4-A4E4-8FF15B3246E9.jpgI also was able to substitute this week, which is a huge surprise, mostly because teachers hardly ever miss the first week of school. It was an easy day of work I got to substitute for a second grade teacher! Second grade is definitely my favorite, since they’re always well behaved.

All in all, my week was great and productive!

I hope you all had a great week as well, and I hope you enjoy your weekend!
