Snow Day in South Texas!

Hello and Happy New Year!

I hope you all had an amazing day today!

For those of you that don’t know I’m from south Texas and the last time it snowed here was on December 24, 2004, approximately 13 years ago! 13! I was only eight years old and I still remember bits and pieces of that day. Though we did not get a lot of snow it was enough for us to call it a white Christmas!

After 13 years on December 8, 2017 it finally snowed here again and it was so beautiful! I did what any other person who hasn’t really seen snow would do! Take pictures! I took tons of pictures/videos. I even went driving around the whole town just to take pictures and to admire the beauty of it.

Here are some of the pictures I was able to capture on this beautiful day!

I wasn’t quite sure whether it was going to snow but after some time it just started snowing!

IMG_2472.jpg

It did snow very softly at first. At one point I wasn’t sure if it was snow or just rain.

IMG_2646.jpg

But after a while it just started pouring and the site was beautiful.

IMG_2475.jpg

My dad even called me from work and asked me to take a picture of his oldie truck the one he swears to fix one day. Lol

IMG_2506.jpg

My mom also called me and asked me to take a picture of the house.

Screen Shot 2018-01-01 at 9.09.14 PM.png

I even drove past campus to see what it would look like with all the snow.

IMG_2542.jpg

And I’m glad I did, because it was gorgeous!

IMG_2546.jpg

It was like something you see out of a Christmas movie. People were building snowman and having themselves a good old fashioned snow ball fight. What I was most excited about was making a snow angel! Let me say that making a snow angel with jeans on is not a good idea. I nearly froze my butt off. Lol

IMG_2643.jpg

All in all, it was an amazing day. One I will remember for a long time.

Christmas Shopping Haul

Hello and happy Thursday! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays!

Before Christmas I did a little shopping for some presents! I am definitely going to shop ahead of time next year. All the stores were crazy packed!

IMG_3019.jpg

The first store I went to was Victoria’s Secret and that store was excessively packed. I was quite amazed how they didn’t run out of stuff. I was especially amazed at the workers there, and their ability to deal with so many people.

IMG_3015.jpg

This year I wanted to get my aunts and older female cousins gifts. I never get them anything, so I wanted to do something nice for them. At Victoria’s Secret they had a fragrance/mist special. Usually their mists are about $18 each and I was able to get them for $6 each! I purchased not one, not two, but ten of their fragrances for only $60. At regular price I would’ve paid $180 for all ten fragrances, which is ridiculously expensive for me! Thank goodness for their promotions!

I also purchased two of their travel size fragrances for the price of one! All in all, I saved a total of $195, which is kind of a bargain if you ask me!

IMG_3020.jpg

Since I did spend over $75 I was lucky enough to receive a free tote! The retail price for this cute tote was $58, and I was able to get it for free! I also think the tote would make a cute christmas gift.

The next store I went to was Old Navy. I haven’t been to Old Navy in the longest time, but since I had heard an awesome promotion that they were having I decided to give it a go!

I purchased a really cute long sleeve for my cousin. The retail price for the long sleeve was $14.99 and I was able to get it only for $6! I also got two items for my boyfriend. He had told me that he had been wanting an army green sweater. I was so luck to find the perfect sweater for him, especially since it was the only one left in his size. The retail price for this sweater was $30 and I was able to get it for $10! Lately he has also really been into flannels so I also got him a flannel.

All in all I saved around $51 for these three items!

I then went to the dollar tree to buy a little bit of stuff for the goodie bags that I had planned. I really love the dollar tree when it comes to holidays/birthdays because they sell awesome decorations/knick knacks for a really affordable price!

The last place I went to was Ulta! I absolutely love this store, because they have pretty much all beauty products whether they’re sold at Sephora or at a grocery store. I only got two items from this place and they were not gifts for anyone. I was actually in need of these products.

IMG_3033.jpg

I purchased the Batiste dry shampoo. This is actually the first time I purchased this item and I am hoping I will like it. I also purchased some beauty rounds. I tend to use these to apply my concealer.

That is it for my shopping haul. I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I enjoyed shopping for these items! Have a great day and happy holidays!

My Recent Purchases

Hello and Happy Thursday! I hope everyone is having an awesome day today!

I recently purchased some makeup products online and I wanted to show you guys what I bought!

I usually never do online shopping, but my boyfriend was offering to buy me a couple of things so why not!

IMG_1934.jpg

I was in need of a new eye liner since my old one dried out. I have always been a huge fan of all matte products, so of course I had to get a matte eye liner!

IMG_1937.jpg

I decided to give the Nyx Matte liquid liner a try. This item was purchased for seven dollars! I have not used it yet, but I ‘m definitely planning on using it!

IMG_1940.jpg

I’m not one to but expensive mascaras mostly because I’m a firm believer that my seven dollar The Colossal mascara by Maybelline, can do the job of any high end mascara, but I decided to give this mascara a try. This mascara is They’re Real by benefit cosmetics and it is an awesome mascara for anyone who loves length in their lashes, which I mean who doesn’t?

IMG_1945.jpg

It also came with a mini mascara which I thought was pretty great considering how much beauty travel size products cost.

IMG_1952.jpg

The retail price for this product was $36 dollars and I purchased this product for $24. I hope to have a full review on this product hopefully in the near future! Fingers crossed!

IMG_1959.jpg

Last but not least, my favorite purchase! I purchased the Lancome Matter Shaker Liquid Lipstick. This product is totally new to me and I am so glad I purchased it!

IMG_1961.jpg

I got the shade 262 called Sea, Sand and Sun. It is a pinkish/nudish matte color and it’s so cute!

IMG_1967.jpg

This lipstick is a shaker, which means that in order to be able to get some of the product out you need to shake it.

IMG_1973.jpg

I purchased this item for $22 dollars, which I know is pretty pricey for a lipstick but I was very curious as to how this product worked and the color is gorgeous!

I hope you guys enjoyed reading my post on my recent purchases! I hope you have a great day and make it a good one!

September Favorites

Hello and happy Saturday!

I hope everyone is having a great day!

I know I’m a little late with this post, but better late than never.

Today I wanted to write about my September favorites, as you can tell by the title!

So here are my September Favorites!

9B199F73-07A7-44FD-8C5B-0DA8AA031D20.jpg

1.  Kate Spade New York Scatter Dot Large 17 Month 2017 Agenda

School has been really hectic these last couple of weeks and the one thing that has kept me from going insane with all the assignments is my Kate Spade planner! It is a 17 month large size agenda planner. Beginning with August 2016 and ending with the month of December 2017. It comes with monthly and weekly spread, which is what I use to keep myself organized. This has been by far my absolute favorite product this month!

AC2E03CB-915E-42EA-BFFF-F7826AF834FE.jpg2. Eva-NYC Dry Shampoo

This dry shampoo has been a life saver these last couple of weeks. It smells beautiful and does a great job of getting rid of all the oils. I actually received this sample size in the mail by Influenster and ever since I got it, it’s been amazing! Also, a little goes a long way with this product! I use this product every other day when I blow dry my hair or when I just want my hair to smell extra clean. I will admit though, that I dislike how it leaves my hair. It kind of leaves a residue in the sense that you can feel the product when you run your fingers through your hair, but other than that it is great!

60BD61DC-3CC8-4EF1-93B7-8E7874461465.jpg3. Wondra Cleansing Wipes

I am a huge fan when it comes to the Neutrogena makeup removing wipes, but I am not a huge fan when it comes to their prices. I have found some awesome makeup removing wipes that can compete with these Neutrogena wipes and it won’t hurt your wallet! The Wondra cleansing wipes are great I especially love how affordable they are! They’ve been really handy and I am so glad I found this product!

3B37696F-9EAA-425B-BED4-E6E5E36C827A.jpg4. Benefit Cosmetics Foamingly Gentle Facial Wash

This facial wash has been my absolute favorite face wash this month. It’s by Benefit and the retail price is $22.00 and I know that might be a little pricey, but a little does go a long way! It smells so good and leaves your skin feeling so nice and clean!

Tips for New Substitute Teachers👩🏻‍🏫

Hello and happy Saturday! I hope everyone is having a great day!
School has been keeping me busy these last couple of weeks, and I finally had a little bit of free time for my blog!

I honestly can’t believe that the month of September is finally over. It went by so fast! On the bright side it’s finally October which means fall decorating and Halloween!🎃

Today I want to write some tips for any new substitute teachers who are needing any extra help.

I’m currently on my third year of being a substitute teacher. I know that isn’t a lot of experience, but it’s quite amazing what you can learn in such a short time.

Here are some tips that I’ve learned and I hope they can help you out!

Setting the Mood

From the moment you step into the room the students are analyzing you. They want to see if you’re going to be a strict substitute or a pushover.
I always begin by instructing the students to have a seat and stay quiet.

I make sure to always introduce myself whether I do a full day or half day. When I introduce myself I am not Ashley, I am Ms.Barron.

I explain to them of what I tolerate and don’t. I make sure they completely understand the consequences of misbehaving. Also, a lot of students believe that we as substitute teachers don’t have a lot of power. Make sure to let them know that you were informed by their teacher that you are allowed to send students to the principals office. Even if you weren’t told or allowed it always works with my students.

I cannot emphasize how important it is to set the mood at the beginning of class. Setting the mood is by far the most important tip I can give. It will make the rest of your day so much easier if you set the mood at the beginning of class.

Prizes

This is probably my favorite tip and has made my day so much easier.
I usually go to the Dollar Tree and spend no more than ten dollars on knick knacks. I don’t buy individual toys because that would be crazy expensive and not everyone would be able to receive a prize. I usually buy packets of little prizes similar to Peter Piper Pizza or Chuck-e-Cheeses prizes.

Spending ten dollars so your kiddos can behave is totally worth it. Ten dollars worth of prizes will usually last you a good while. I’ve also gone to target and purchased sixty mini erasers for only one dollar, which is amazing!

I always explain to the students the rules in order to be able to win a prize. If I have to call on them more than three times they will not be able to win a prize at the end of the day.

For reference, I try not to give the Pre-Kinder and Kindergarteners anything that they can eat or choke on, like the mini erasers or play-doh. I try to give them pencils or stickers for safety reasons.

Also, try not to give candy away as prizes mostly because some students can be allergic to certain ingredients in the candy or they’re just not allowed to eat certain foods.

It is always best to be safe then sorry!

Don’t have unrealistic expectations

Now this is a tip that took me a while to figure out. At the beginning I always had unrealistic expectations. I expected my kindergarteners/first graders to be completely quiet. Which is nice in a perfect world, but far from reality.
I’ve come to realize that some of my classes will never be completely quiet. We might have quiet moments here and there, but for the most part, expect the unexpected.

Overall having unrealistic expectations just makes it stressful for yourself, and for the class.

Have a middle ground

It is important to have a middle ground when being a substitute teacher. You don’t want to be that overly-strict substitute, but at the same time you also don’t want to be that pushover substitute.

Being a substitute teacher has been a crazy roller coaster. I can definitely say that I’ve come to really appreciate what teachers do and say that their job is not easy!

I hope these couple of tips were helpful to any newbie substitute teachers and if you’re not a substitute teacher but are considering wanting to become one I highly recommend it!

It is a great job for students, parents and pretty much anyone with an unpredictable schedule. I definitely love the freedom this job has given me. As a substitute teacher, you have the option of going into work whenever you want, so you pretty much make your own schedule!

It’s great for me since I’m currently a student at a University and sometimes I have exams that I have to study way ahead of time. If I need extra time for my classes I just won’t go in, but if I have free time I can schedule in work days whenever I want.

If you like kids you’ll definitely have a great time!

I hope you have a great weekend and make it a good one!

Mascara Review: The Colossal Volum’ Express by Maybelline New York

Hello everyone!

Happy Friday! Finally the weekend is here!

Today I wanted to write a review on my favorite mascara, the Colossal Volume Express by Maybelline New York. This is my first time reviewing a mascara, so please bare with me. I am reviewing the glam black shade.

Let me begin by saying that my lashes are naturally long and I am not wearing false lashes nor extensions just to make that clear. In the photo below I’m not wearing any mascara on.

I am a total mascara lover! Whether I am doing a full makeup look or something more natural, mascara is always in the picture!

This mascara has been my go-to for about four years or so. I’m not quite sure on the timeline, but this product is one that I’ve been using since forever!

I’m not so crazy about the bright colors on the packaging, but it is easy to find when digging through your makeup bag that’s for sure!

The brush is amazing, it adds volume and lengthens your lashes! I especially love how it applies evenly and as you can tell by the photos it does a great job of separating your lashes to give you a fuller look.
Whenever I use this product I’m constantly being complimented and asked whether if I’m wearing false lashes.

The only bad thing that I can say about this product is the fact that it tends to flake as I’m applying it, but other than that this mascara is great!

This mascara can do the job of any high priced mascara and the great part is the price! This product can be purchased at Ulta for only seven dollars which is awesome. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a great mascara without putting a dent in their bank account!

Have a great weekend!

Nyx matte lipstick

Happy Wednesday!
I hope everyone is doing great! I just wanted to write a mini blog post on this gorgeous shade of matte lipstick from NYX.

It’s the perfect shade of pink! The color is Istanbul and the packaging/texture of the product is great! This lipstick can be purchased for about $6.50 at Ulta, Target or Walgreens.

I know fall is around the corner so most bright colors are pretty much out of the picture now, but I was in need of a bright pink shade!

I just wanted to post a little something on my recent purchase!

Favorite Products of the Month: August

Hello!

August has come to an end so that means summer is over and fall is around the corner! I especially love fall time because that means cozy/comfy outfits and scarfs!

I wanted to write a blog post on my favorite products for the month of August, so without further a do, here are my favorite products of this month.

IMG_0810.jpgIf you’ve read my previous post you’ll know that I received my first Influenster Voxbox and within that box I got many goodies. My favorite product would have to be the Vera Wang Embrace Rose buds & Vanilla perfume. It is very affordable and smells beautiful. It sort of has that clean/fresh scent which is what I think about when I think of summer.

5926F61F-D417-46F2-832E-381B355BF4F7.jpg

I’ve always heard that you’re a shade darker in the summer. I didn’t believe it till this year, when I came to realize this hard way. I never realized that I was getting tanner as summer was approaching. I remember looking at myself and getting surprised because of how pale my foundation made me look. I decided that it was time to purchase a new foundation for the summer. I purchased my first Dior product! The Diorskin Nude Air Foundation. This found is amazing and I am so happy I purchased this product. It’s coverage is amazing and it smells beautifully. This product is definitely going to be one of my top favorites for quite a while.

IMG_1057.jpg

The Mac lipstick ‘Shy Girl’ has been my go to for this whole month. It is a beautiful pinkish/nude creme sheen lipstick and goes perfect with anything. It’s not too over the top and not too natural its the perfect combination!

IMG_1062.jpg

Whether I am doing a natural look or more of an intense look I always use my Hoola Bronzer Powder by Benefit. I especially love how this product comes with a mirror it is great to toss into your handbag or backpack for emergencies.

27AC2B9D-E9C3-4C12-B02C-AF03F049764B.jpg

The Urban Decay Naked Powder Foundation has been a life saver especially since school has been on going. Whether I am doing a full face or just using the powder foundation it’s been my go to! It’s coverage is amazing, but it does not last long, so it but be reapplied every so often.

IMG_1055.jpg

These are my favorite products for the month of August! I hope you have a great day and enjoy the week ahead!

-Ashley N. Barron
