Snow Day in South Texas!

Hello and Happy New Year!

I hope you all had an amazing day today!

For those of you that don’t know I’m from south Texas and the last time it snowed here was on December 24, 2004, approximately 13 years ago! 13! I was only eight years old and I still remember bits and pieces of that day. Though we did not get a lot of snow it was enough for us to call it a white Christmas!

After 13 years on December 8, 2017 it finally snowed here again and it was so beautiful! I did what any other person who hasn’t really seen snow would do! Take pictures! I took tons of pictures/videos. I even went driving around the whole town just to take pictures and to admire the beauty of it.

Here are some of the pictures I was able to capture on this beautiful day!

I wasn’t quite sure whether it was going to snow but after some time it just started snowing!

IMG_2472.jpg

It did snow very softly at first. At one point I wasn’t sure if it was snow or just rain.

IMG_2646.jpg

But after a while it just started pouring and the site was beautiful.

IMG_2475.jpg

My dad even called me from work and asked me to take a picture of his oldie truck the one he swears to fix one day. Lol

IMG_2506.jpg

My mom also called me and asked me to take a picture of the house.

Screen Shot 2018-01-01 at 9.09.14 PM.png

I even drove past campus to see what it would look like with all the snow.

IMG_2542.jpg

And I’m glad I did, because it was gorgeous!

IMG_2546.jpg

It was like something you see out of a Christmas movie. People were building snowman and having themselves a good old fashioned snow ball fight. What I was most excited about was making a snow angel! Let me say that making a snow angel with jeans on is not a good idea. I nearly froze my butt off. Lol

IMG_2643.jpg

All in all, it was an amazing day. One I will remember for a long time.

Influenster Voxbox

Hello and happy Saturday! I hope everyone is having a great day and making it a good one!

I’m so excited to announce that I have received my second Influenster Voxbox!

IMG_E2966.JPG

Exactly two weeks ago I received an email from Influenster saying that I was accepted for their Suave Naturals voxbox! I’m always using suave products so I was so excited to hear that I was going to receive two full size suave products for free!

IMG_2955.jpg

I received the almond and shea butter lotion its retail price is $2.94. I was also lucky enough to receive the avocado and olive oil body wash! Aside from the two full products they sent me a cute little green loofah. A total retail price of $8, being both delivered and given to me for free? Totally awesome, and something I definitely recommend you all look into.

So here are my reviews on the two products.

IMG_E2970.JPG

Avocado and Olive Oil Body Wash: I was so excited when I received the Avocado and olive oil body wash! I was especially curious as to how they were going to make a body wash smell like avocado! To my surprise it smelled very clean and smooth! It was not a strong scent like some other body washes. I especially loved how it left my body feeling. My skin felt so smooth and moisturized. This product is definitely a new fave of mine!

IMG_E2969.JPG

Almond and Shea Butter Lotion: Now, I have used this product before, and can attest that it’s a very good moisturizer! It’s a great product for anyone who deals with dry skin, whether it be on their face, legs, arms, etc. This product will leave your skin feeling nice and smooth if repeatedly used. The smell is amazing and a little bit of this product really does go a long way! I can assure you that this bottle of lotion will last you for a good while!

Overall using these two products will leave your skin feeling healthy and happy!

Also, if you are not an Influenster user I highly recommend you sign up! You won’t regret it especially when you receive your first voxbox! I also want to mention that Influenster does not ask for any type of credit/debit card, like so many other companies out there.

If you decide to sign up here is a link to get you started:  http://www.influenster.com/r/3023422

Thank you so much for reading and happy holidays!

Mascara Review: They’re Real by Benefit Cosmetics

Hello and happy Thursday!

Today I wanted to write a review on the mascara They’re Real by Benefit Cosmetics.

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 5.16.06 PM.png

I’ve always heard many amazing things about this mascara, so I decided to give it a try.

Now I’m the type of person who loves both length and fullness when it comes to my eyelashes.  But if I had to choose one I would take fullness over length!

If you’re looking for a mascara to give you that long and beautiful length that your eyelashes deserve than this mascara is totally for you!

I’m not going to lie, when I first tried this mascara I was disappointed. My bar was set so high for this product since I’ve heard nothing but good things, but after using it a couple of times and applying more than one coat I fell in love!

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 5.16.24 PM.png

For the past couple of years I’ve only used one mascara and I guess I forgot that different mascaras give you different looks. I know it’s silly and so obvious, but I had fallen into a routine with this old mascara of mine. In the past I’ve purchased other mascaras and non have been as good as my old one until I got my hands on this one!

This mascara is definitely one of my top five beauty products!

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 5.15.52 PM.png

The retail price for this product is $36, but I was able to get it for $24! It also came with a mini, which is a pretty awesome deal if you ask me! You can have one at home and toss the other in your purse/backpack for emergencies.

When applying this product make sure not to accidentally get some of the mascara on your eyelid, especially if you have eyeshadow on. It’s pretty tough to remove if you make a mistake.

Overall this product is definitely worth it! With the holidays around the corner this would make a great gift/stocking stuffer for anyone who is a mascara lover!

I hope you have a beautiful day and thank you for reading!

Tips for New Substitute Teachers👩🏻‍🏫

Hello and happy Saturday! I hope everyone is having a great day!
School has been keeping me busy these last couple of weeks, and I finally had a little bit of free time for my blog!

I honestly can’t believe that the month of September is finally over. It went by so fast! On the bright side it’s finally October which means fall decorating and Halloween!🎃

Today I want to write some tips for any new substitute teachers who are needing any extra help.

I’m currently on my third year of being a substitute teacher. I know that isn’t a lot of experience, but it’s quite amazing what you can learn in such a short time.

Here are some tips that I’ve learned and I hope they can help you out!

Setting the Mood

From the moment you step into the room the students are analyzing you. They want to see if you’re going to be a strict substitute or a pushover.
I always begin by instructing the students to have a seat and stay quiet.

I make sure to always introduce myself whether I do a full day or half day. When I introduce myself I am not Ashley, I am Ms.Barron.

I explain to them of what I tolerate and don’t. I make sure they completely understand the consequences of misbehaving. Also, a lot of students believe that we as substitute teachers don’t have a lot of power. Make sure to let them know that you were informed by their teacher that you are allowed to send students to the principals office. Even if you weren’t told or allowed it always works with my students.

I cannot emphasize how important it is to set the mood at the beginning of class. Setting the mood is by far the most important tip I can give. It will make the rest of your day so much easier if you set the mood at the beginning of class.

Prizes

This is probably my favorite tip and has made my day so much easier.
I usually go to the Dollar Tree and spend no more than ten dollars on knick knacks. I don’t buy individual toys because that would be crazy expensive and not everyone would be able to receive a prize. I usually buy packets of little prizes similar to Peter Piper Pizza or Chuck-e-Cheeses prizes.

Spending ten dollars so your kiddos can behave is totally worth it. Ten dollars worth of prizes will usually last you a good while. I’ve also gone to target and purchased sixty mini erasers for only one dollar, which is amazing!

I always explain to the students the rules in order to be able to win a prize. If I have to call on them more than three times they will not be able to win a prize at the end of the day.

For reference, I try not to give the Pre-Kinder and Kindergarteners anything that they can eat or choke on, like the mini erasers or play-doh. I try to give them pencils or stickers for safety reasons.

Also, try not to give candy away as prizes mostly because some students can be allergic to certain ingredients in the candy or they’re just not allowed to eat certain foods.

It is always best to be safe then sorry!

Don’t have unrealistic expectations

Now this is a tip that took me a while to figure out. At the beginning I always had unrealistic expectations. I expected my kindergarteners/first graders to be completely quiet. Which is nice in a perfect world, but far from reality.
I’ve come to realize that some of my classes will never be completely quiet. We might have quiet moments here and there, but for the most part, expect the unexpected.

Overall having unrealistic expectations just makes it stressful for yourself, and for the class.

Have a middle ground

It is important to have a middle ground when being a substitute teacher. You don’t want to be that overly-strict substitute, but at the same time you also don’t want to be that pushover substitute.

Being a substitute teacher has been a crazy roller coaster. I can definitely say that I’ve come to really appreciate what teachers do and say that their job is not easy!

I hope these couple of tips were helpful to any newbie substitute teachers and if you’re not a substitute teacher but are considering wanting to become one I highly recommend it!

It is a great job for students, parents and pretty much anyone with an unpredictable schedule. I definitely love the freedom this job has given me. As a substitute teacher, you have the option of going into work whenever you want, so you pretty much make your own schedule!

It’s great for me since I’m currently a student at a University and sometimes I have exams that I have to study way ahead of time. If I need extra time for my classes I just won’t go in, but if I have free time I can schedule in work days whenever I want.

If you like kids you’ll definitely have a great time!

I hope you have a great weekend and make it a good one!

Mascara Review: The Colossal Volum’ Express by Maybelline New York

Hello everyone!

Happy Friday! Finally the weekend is here!

Today I wanted to write a review on my favorite mascara, the Colossal Volume Express by Maybelline New York. This is my first time reviewing a mascara, so please bare with me. I am reviewing the glam black shade.

Let me begin by saying that my lashes are naturally long and I am not wearing false lashes nor extensions just to make that clear. In the photo below I’m not wearing any mascara on.

I am a total mascara lover! Whether I am doing a full makeup look or something more natural, mascara is always in the picture!

This mascara has been my go-to for about four years or so. I’m not quite sure on the timeline, but this product is one that I’ve been using since forever!

I’m not so crazy about the bright colors on the packaging, but it is easy to find when digging through your makeup bag that’s for sure!

The brush is amazing, it adds volume and lengthens your lashes! I especially love how it applies evenly and as you can tell by the photos it does a great job of separating your lashes to give you a fuller look.
Whenever I use this product I’m constantly being complimented and asked whether if I’m wearing false lashes.

The only bad thing that I can say about this product is the fact that it tends to flake as I’m applying it, but other than that this mascara is great!

This mascara can do the job of any high priced mascara and the great part is the price! This product can be purchased at Ulta for only seven dollars which is awesome. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a great mascara without putting a dent in their bank account!

Have a great weekend!

Nyx matte lipstick

Happy Wednesday!
I hope everyone is doing great! I just wanted to write a mini blog post on this gorgeous shade of matte lipstick from NYX.

It’s the perfect shade of pink! The color is Istanbul and the packaging/texture of the product is great! This lipstick can be purchased for about $6.50 at Ulta, Target or Walgreens.

I know fall is around the corner so most bright colors are pretty much out of the picture now, but I was in need of a bright pink shade!

I just wanted to post a little something on my recent purchase!

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette Review

Hello everyone!

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone is having a great/productive day!

Today I decided to dedicate a blog post to swatching/reviewing the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette!

This was my first time swatching and I really enjoyed it! It was pretty messy, but definitely worth it.

Before I did this I never really payed much attention to the detail within the shades. Having done these swatches made me really appreciate the beauty of the colors within this palette.

So without further a do, here are my swatches/review!

The palette has twelve beautiful colors! Nine shimmer shades and three matte colors. From left to right they are: Foxy, Half Baked, Bootycall, Chopper, Tease, Snakebite, Suspect, Pistol, Verve, YDK, Busted, and Blackout. The palette also comes with a mirror and a double sided eyeshadow brush.

I tend to use the both of the brushes when applying my makeup. I use the smaller brush (photo above) for applying the product and the bigger brush (photo below) for blending.

Everything about this product is gorgeous; the packaging, the different shades, it’s a great size and the pigmentation of the colors are fabulous!

I did have quite a bit of trouble showing the Foxy shade (first shade) mostly because it is a light creme color. The nine shimmer shades just glided on my skin I had absolutely no trouble applying those colors. They are very pigmented and apply beautiful.

My favorite shades would have to be Busted and Pistol. Those shades are gorgeous especially since fall is around the corner!

This palette is perfect for anyone, whether you’re a professional or you’re barely learning how to apply eyeshadow. You can do either a natural look or go for a more intense look when using this palette.

I believe this palette could be purchased at Sephora, Ulta or at Macy’s. It can be purchased for around fifty dollars. I know it’s a little but on the pricey side, but a little does go a long way. I’ve had this palette for about two years now, so it does last quite a while!

Overall, the colors are gorgeous and I hope you enjoyed me babbling on about this palette!

Favorite Products of the Month: August

Hello!

August has come to an end so that means summer is over and fall is around the corner! I especially love fall time because that means cozy/comfy outfits and scarfs!

I wanted to write a blog post on my favorite products for the month of August, so without further a do, here are my favorite products of this month.

IMG_0810.jpgIf you’ve read my previous post you’ll know that I received my first Influenster Voxbox and within that box I got many goodies. My favorite product would have to be the Vera Wang Embrace Rose buds & Vanilla perfume. It is very affordable and smells beautiful. It sort of has that clean/fresh scent which is what I think about when I think of summer.

5926F61F-D417-46F2-832E-381B355BF4F7.jpg

I’ve always heard that you’re a shade darker in the summer. I didn’t believe it till this year, when I came to realize this hard way. I never realized that I was getting tanner as summer was approaching. I remember looking at myself and getting surprised because of how pale my foundation made me look. I decided that it was time to purchase a new foundation for the summer. I purchased my first Dior product! The Diorskin Nude Air Foundation. This found is amazing and I am so happy I purchased this product. It’s coverage is amazing and it smells beautifully. This product is definitely going to be one of my top favorites for quite a while.

IMG_1057.jpg

The Mac lipstick ‘Shy Girl’ has been my go to for this whole month. It is a beautiful pinkish/nude creme sheen lipstick and goes perfect with anything. It’s not too over the top and not too natural its the perfect combination!

IMG_1062.jpg

Whether I am doing a natural look or more of an intense look I always use my Hoola Bronzer Powder by Benefit. I especially love how this product comes with a mirror it is great to toss into your handbag or backpack for emergencies.

27AC2B9D-E9C3-4C12-B02C-AF03F049764B.jpg

The Urban Decay Naked Powder Foundation has been a life saver especially since school has been on going. Whether I am doing a full face or just using the powder foundation it’s been my go to! It’s coverage is amazing, but it does not last long, so it but be reapplied every so often.

IMG_1055.jpg

These are my favorite products for the month of August! I hope you have a great day and enjoy the week ahead!

My First Influenster Voxbox!

63FB7982-ADA6-4277-8783-E367D93915E4.jpgHello!

I am so excited to announce that I have received my first Voxbox from Influenster!

Let me quickly explain what Influenster is for some of you who don’t know.

Influenster is this amazing website/app that sends you free products! All you have to do in return is review the products and post it to the social medias that you have linked into your account.

It took me quite a while to receive my first voxbox. I would say that it took me two to five months to receive my first box, but that was because I wasn’t active on the website/app at the beginning. The more you review products and answer people’s questions the better your chances of receiving your first complimentary Voxbox!

Also, linking you accounts will help you achieve impact points, which will ultimately help you get a voxbox!

7DFB853A-6F2C-49CA-8777-7C923635567D.jpg

The box I received was the Shimmer Voxbox! It came with an eye/lip moisturizer, two different sample size perfumes, some press on nails, a dry shampoo and a delicious treat!

8008D339-EE57-4D1C-8645-268D8F05D2C2.jpg

Nyakio Moisturizer: I received a sample size Line Smoothing Eye & Lip Cream by Nyakio. This product smells great and it is so easy to use! I especially love how it is both a lip and eye cream moisturizer, which I don’t often find! I definitely plan on purchasing this amazing product in the near future!

A378D205-F61B-420F-8DAD-C2F6FBE7F190.jpg

Perfumes: I love anything that has to deal with perfumes! I was so excited when I found out that I was going to receive not one but two sample sizes of perfumes! The perfumes are VeraWang Embrace. The scents I received were Rosebuds & Vanilla, and Marigold & Gardenia. The rosebuds & vanilla had a sweet delicate scent, while the Marigold & Gardenia reminded me more of a bright and fruity scent! I plan on purchasing the Rosebuds & Vanilla in the future, definitely one of my favorites!

F59B0CE8-0C95-4EE0-9CFE-175117E706C1.jpg

Impress Press on Manicure: I have not tried this product out yet, mostly because I am not a fan of press on nails. I feel like they aren’t as reliable as acrylic nails, but I plan on using this in the future in case of a nail emergency.

CBCF4899-4031-4262-9DD2-E2932A60C4B3.jpg

Eva-Nye Dry Shampoo: I was so happy when I received this product! I was in need of a new dry shampoo! It is the Eva-Nye Freshen up Dry Shampoo. This product absorbs all the oil from your scalp and leaves a beautiful scent. It’s definitely a keeper!

D21BA0DD-BBD7-4E05-AB72-EFDF59D96BB8.jpg

Sour Punch Straws: Last but not least, my absolute favorite product from the whole box! These Sour Punch Straws consist of four different flavors: strawberry, lemon, green apple, and tangerine! The lemon flavor was not my favorite, but the other flavors were delicious!

DB7C21B2-EA79-4348-B4FF-3387E0AA517B.jpg

I hope you enjoyed my post on what I received in my very first Voxbox by Influenster! Make sure you open an account so you could start receiving your very first Voxbox!
